Recipe - Plain Mince Meat

This is something we have at our house. I’ve no idea what it is called apart from just a simple mince dish; it is the plainest recipe but does go a long way. I suppose it is almost like a savoury mince meat dish, yet it isn’t? At any rate I’ve also used this mix for mince pies and or pasties fillings and as well you can do it up in toasted jaffles (does anyone even have those machines any more?) You can also add this into a baking dish, pile on mashed potatoes, bake until the mash is just crispy brown on top and serve up with steamed vegetables and mashed pumpkin --- This one is called a Shepherds pie.

When this plain dish is cooked we just pile it on a buttered bread roll.

It is a cheap dish and works out moderately cheap for a family meal if you check your supermarket deals on mince.

 Ingredients:

Mince (we use topside beef)

Onion

Garlic

Flour water mix to make a gravy like mix to thicken the mince.

Method:

Heat oil in large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic. Cook until onion is tender. Add mince. Cook stirring with a wooden spoon to break up mince for 8-10 mins until brown or cooked through. Mix up a little flour in water and add to cooked mince too thicken a bit, cook until the gravy mix is thickened and just reduced a little. Serve.

    1. Thanks, Nanna Chel. It isn't the most prettiest dish to look at but with this cooler weather about it's nice to have!
